Can't you set the speed on endless pools? So if the current is running at 2mph you know how far you would have travelled given time in the pool - you could do reps akin to running on a treadmill

Aquasphere Eagle goggles with prescription lenses for training, always wear contacts for racing. I have also kitesurfed for several years and have never lost a contact yet and that includes big slams et al. Never had any problems with infections, but have always worn daily disposables

Find out if there are local clubs that do open water sessions & join that. They'll have coaches that will be able to support & help you over come your fears and you'll be able to swim in a group. Remember though with a wetsuit you'll just float - start by just laying with your face in the water - get used to the sensation - stay in nice shallow preferably clearish water so you can just put your feet on the bottom if need be. Hopefully your confidence will grow from there.

Word of warning if you choose Fuertebici wheels - I've got 60/88 clinchers (just over £500 18 months ago) but they took 6 months to get them from initial order!! (I like the wheels though!!)

The ratchet on my 9 speed Sora lever appears to have given up the ghost - does any one have one - seems a bit daft to pay for a pair, but someone out there may have broken the front derailleur changer?!!

Yeh sign up David Duffield - the undisputed king of cycle commentating.
I managed to make the stage finish at Newcastle/Gateshaed (as they called it) - I too was amazed at the speed - it was like a tube train the way the air was pushed out of the way - I was stood @ 1km form the finish just on a slight down hill - I suspect they must have been travelling at 40-45mph. I only get to those speeds off a cliff

Just an up date - no reply as yet to my complaints, but I was talking to a friend who was wakeboarding down at the swim course on the Saturday and the organisers were asking if the minded them starting to mark out the swim course - they said no problem - they were then asked if they had any buoys to borrow!
I think if a triathlon club had organised this event it would have been much improved.

Hope to get to see the finish tomorrow in Newcastle - doing the Newbiggin tri just up the road on the morning so might as well stop on the way home. Good to see it's getting daily TV coverage as this years' field looks the best yet!!
